This promo mixset is a sampler of the slower stuff I like to play as Tao Jones. It's basically a condensed version of the hour and a half to two hours I normally play. It starts off all chunky and hiphop, gets glitchy, rages it, catches it's breath, and then get's all wobbly in the low end. The last track I probably wouldn't play at an event unless it was really appropriate, but it's one of my favourite songs ever so I thought I'd share it with you.

If you like the music on this set, please support the artists by buying their music and going to their shows.

Thanks and props go out to ana sia, lorin, the glitch mob, and sean conlon, who did shut em down with me.
About Label:
"Step Sine" was founded in 2006 as a result of amalgamation of two labels – Nubreaks.Net and Breaksound. Today it's the only breaks label in Russia which is able to deliver the music created on the territory of the former USSR to the Western listener. The amalgamation allowed to extend the list of artists, the catalogue of releases as well as to increase opportunities of promotion of the label's products on the world's market.
Over a short period of its existence the label has won the reputation of the only source and voice of the Russian breaks which has unique sound appreciated by the professionals of the industry and listeners. Tracks produced by the label can be heard on the biggest radio stations, in sets of famous DJs and are highly rated by the breaks music experts.
At last the integration of the breaks culture of the former USSR countries into the world process of the style development has started. In the nearest future the label is going to take significant steps in promotion of the Russian break beat all over the world.

We just started a new weekly breaks night in the Phoenix, AZ area. This Tuesday (02/27) will be our second night. We tripled the bar's income on our first night 2 weeks ago, and we plan on keeping that happening.

If any of you kind folks are in the Phoenix Metro area (Tempe, near ASU) on a Tuesday, please drop in and say hello. If you want to spin some breaks, let me know and we'll sort out the details. Right now we aren't getting paid (other than in what we can drink), but when we prove ourselves (and the bar starts making decent money) we'll have some cash to play with.
So yeah, if you or your friends are coming through Phoenix on a Tuesday, shoot me a line!
Undecided / Santa Fe - ReMex Vol 01
Record Label: SANGO MUSIC
Release Date: Feb/25/2007
Catalog Number: SM-002
Distributed by: Load Media UK
Preview: www.junodownload.com/labels/Sango

01. Undecided - Heavy Cargo (Neztic remix)
02. Santa Fe - Tunel (Neztic remix)

01.Undecided - Heavy Cargo (Digital Release)
02. Santa Fe - Iguana's Theme (Digital Release)

Undecided, a.k.a. Chris Shelton, was captivated by the scene in early 1998 and since then has been cultivating his own style of funky, hard-hitting breaks referred to as that nu-funk sound. In September 2005 Undecided and production partner Kiro had their debut release “Obsessive Nature” signed by the popular UK record Label MOB, receiving support by all the breakbeat big names.

This is Undecided’s debut release for Sango Music, a powerful and aggressive piece of breakbeat filled with athmospherics, deep bass tones and interesting synth works that will keep the floor moving, this is a whole new step for the Sango label and we’re very proud of it.

As a perfect companion for Heavy Cargo, we present a new exclusive production by the Mexican duo Santa Fe, “Iguana’s Theme” is all about old school beats, warm melodies and strong basslines. An interesting track to let us hear some of the exciting sounds of Santa Fe.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's been said so far:

Ben & Lex (Ape Music / Functional)
I'm fuckin lovin the sango 002, exactly what we like, nice funky/dark Dancefloor bizness but with musicality and brainstop, fuckin dollar.

Plaza de Funk (West / Mantra Breaks)
Heavy Cargo is fantastic, it's good to see that some producers dare to do something different! Neztic and the label have very quickly established a very personal sound, I'm sure both are set for great things. Big release!

Karton (Sound Of Habib / S.N.S.)
As always Neztics production on both is top shelf. Heavy Cargo is a perfect mid-set roller where as Tunel is one for the late night crew. Both are big tunes and Sango is looking to have a big year if they keep dropping heat like this.

Kickflip (Fat! / Beat Industries)
New release is sounding cool, good work once again! The Tunel remix is my favourite, but only just, they're both wicked tunes, and a good follow up to the first release!

Jonny Strinati (Splank Records / Groove Allegiance)
Really diggin your new release, as I was the last one with the Groove Diggerz remix. Both tracks here are really driving, with brilliant drum programming ... Not so keen on the lead guitar sounds, but other than that two strong tracks that'll surely work a sweat up on many floors.

Dj support by Rennie Pilgrem, Ben n Lex, Karton, Andrea Lai and more.

The group's third studio album Weight of the World (Below Me Music 2006), distributed nationally by Outside Music, sees the band push their sound in a more rock based direction. A video for the album's first single, "Turnaround" will be released in early December.

Half of JSB's repertoire consists of organic instrumental material, while the other half displays mature songwriting, powerful vocals, and memorable melodies within the framework of concise arrangements. With influences that range from Daft Punk to Guns N Roses, they meld a vast array of sonic stylings together to create a truly original sound.

For the past six years, JSB has been forging a unique path in the Canadian music scene. During this time their energetic and improvisational live show has helped them develop a cult-like following. They play an average of 150 shows per year in clubs and at festivals across North America, including the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, the Evolve Festival, and the Shoreline Festival in Canada and moe.down and the Haymaker Festival in the US.
Description:

This mix has been in the works ever since I completed my last progressive breaks mix Muse. I realise that anyone who is big into these types of breaks may already be familiar with most or all of these tracks, but they are my favorite choice tunes that I have wanted to link together for quite awhile now. I very rarely hear these types of breaks played out, so I hope they find a few others out there who will be swept away by them as much as I am. As well, the title of this mix is a play on the title of the last track, which I think is a really brilliant gem by LP and Shiloh, awesome work lads!!

Rektchordz - A. “Bass Pressure”
Rektchordz - AA.“Bass Pressure” (Wavewhore Remix)

Release Date: OCTOBER 2006

BFM004. Distributed by Z Audio.

Pioneering and four-time award winning breakbeat radio station BreaksFM (www.breaksfm.com) proudly presents: Rektchordz – “Bass Pressure”

Side A – Bass Pressure. Rektchordz returns again to BreaksFM with this beast of a tune. Following on from “Lojack” (BFM001 – SOLD OUT!) and his remix of Cereal Killaz “Reality” (BFM003 - in the shops now!). Rektchordz’ reputation has been growing steadily since the start of the year, both on his own and alongside his brother (D-Ranged) as part of the excellent IF:IM. With releases on Downbeat, Trans:verse, Bombtraxx as well as BreaksFM, Rektchordz has been a pretty busy this year and he doesn’t look like stopping for a rest any time soon! Bass Pressure may have been named after the one of the massive breaks events in Spain and with good reason! This is dirty festival bassline music. This is music for people who want to have it large. Dirty stomping basslines and a beat so militant it will probably be considered dangerous to the fabric of society as we know it, form the core of this tune. Throw in some especially paranoid samples and you have a cocktail so potent it’s sure to get any raving going crazy.

Side AA – Wavewhore Remix. Based in Manhattan and the driving force behind many of the best breakbeat events in New York, Wavewhore’s reputation has been growing steadily since his first release on Electrofly titled “Breakin’ the Law”. Since then, he’s released “Funk Pill” featuring vocals from Bex Riley on the Breakspoll award winning Broke imprint and is due to drop another bomb titled “This Is How It Should Be Done” again through those cheeky Broke boys. In addition, his Monday evening show on BreaksFM (‘The Audio Tactics Sessions’) has been building quite the audience. When BreaksFM approached him for a remix we expected something “funky”, but what we didn’t expect was the sheer size of this remix. This is a HUGE REMIX! Sounding like the Breakfasterz at their finest, Wavewhore updates the original with extra synths and smoothes down the edges. This remix has been getting plays all the way across the breakbeat scene, from funky to bassline producers alike.

"I f*cking love this tune... really good stuff mate" - Jezbot of The Autobots

"Just gave this a listen - It sounds real fat and I'm burning it for the next gig!" - Dave Aquasky
VINYL RICHIE (Victoria BC)
www.bigfoot-records.com

Canadian songwriting duo Lester formed in 1998. Made up of musician/producer and all around workhorse Brian Carson and prominent West Coast DJ /producer/David Hasslehoff look alike, Scott Arkwell AKA DJ Vinyl Ritchie. Lester's music has been described as "downright filthy, primetime block rockers" by Jockey Slut magazine. DJ Freddy Fresh says "[Lester] definitely have the funk" and included them on his 'Abstract Funk Theory' compilation for BMG Europe and his 7" 'Howlin' USA'. With countless exclusive white labels killing the clubs, two releases on Skeewiff's Jalapeno Records (London) and a second full-length album to be released in 2006, Lester are layin' down their musical manifesto.

BIG LEAGUE CHU

Colin Chu, better known as Big League Chu, is simply the leading DJ talent in Canada?s breakbeat scene today. After nearly a decade of DJing, his name is synonymous with the funky, party-happy sound that?s become Chu's rallying call - and it's one that crowds answer faithfully. Passion for music and fun are what motivates Chu, who plays the piano, flute and guitar, and counts the Dave Matthews Band and Public Enemy as his biggest musical influences. It's this good-natured respect for good times and eclectic sounds that has garnered this humble DJ of Hong Kong and Singaporean descent to such a steady stream of press, from underground publications like Tribe and Klublife to mainstream outlets like the Toronto Star and Eye weekly.
His current projects include Make It Funky and the return of Kickit. Visit him online at www.bigleaguechu.com

THE PHAT CONDUCTOR

The Phat Conductor is one of Toronto's leading breakbeat exports, wreaking havok on turntables, laptops and projectors in
North America, the UK and Europe. Old School, Nu Skool, Home School... it doesn't matter. With an ear for the future and an eye
on the dancefloor the man behind Ice-9 brings you lush, organic electronics, funky bass grooves and a vinyl set performance
to tell your grandkids about...... www.thephatconductor.com

DAVE DUB

Dave Dub is probably the most underrated Breaks DJ in Toronto. After putting out the first Canadian Breaks record ever backin the mid nineties Dave went on to have many releases on various labels, including his own imprint Dubble Sided Vinyl (DSV).

Bio: Tayo has been involved in the UK breakbeat scene for ten years, starting with a club called Friction he ran with Adam Freeland and Rennie Pilgrem, but left in 2005 to do his own thing, making records, doing radio and playing tunes around and about. Nice people like Fabric, Chew The Fat, Urban Gorilla, and many more around the world keep booking him to play at their parties. He has released four mix albums two for Distinctive Breaks for their Y4K series, One for Functional Breaks (Beat & Bobs 3) and the current one "These Are The Breaks" for DMC. He now makes records of a breakbeat and electro nature always heavily inflected with dub overtones. He and Acid Rockers have released singles for Skint, Fat, and Mantra Breaks. They also remixed Jaydee's "Plastic Dreams" amongst other things. He is also making and releasing records with Aquasky (there is a track with Earl 16 on vocals for their new Team Players Album) and their 777 label. Also tracks with Sunz of Mecha, Control Z and The Undersound floating about. He did a show on Kiss100 for three years and has recently moved to Radio One to do a show called The Residency. You can read all about that here at bbc.co.uk/radio1.residency. ........
The Phat Conductor - Live at Shambhala 05

Deep in the mountains of British Columbia, thousands of freaks gather every year for the legendary Shambhala Music Festival, a feast beyond your imagination, it simply has to be experienced. I was lucky enough to be invited to play set at 4 am on the last night of the festival on a stage called the Fractal Forest: 12 projection screens, a laser spewing pyramid, more sound that you should probably ever assemble in one place, and a DJ booth built into a 30 foot tree stump. Here are some pictures, but they really don't do it justice. I will never EVER miss another year of this festival. It truly is mind blowing,
{{Speed Of Spring}}} Sat May 14th 2005
The force that through the green fuse drives the flower
Drives my green age; that blasts the roots of trees
Is my destroyer.
~Dylan Thomas

Its been a long cold winter and signs of rebirth are raging across Toronto. What you've been seeing and feeling recently can only be explained by one important annual event: The arrival of spring. Yes my friends: spring has sprung with unprecedented speed! Now it’s time to burst forth and celebrate the changing of the seasons as breaks impregnates techno with the seed of bass fever!!!
---
LORIN BASSNECTAR

In honour of SPRING Lorin returns to Toronto for his third appearance and follows up on his brilliant sets at Spellbound and Broken Prophecy. His deep hypnotic freak hop basslines are now the stuff of legend at three of Canada's largest outdoor festivals: Shambhala, Om and Evolve. On this tour Lorin will be playing a large amount of brand-new, never-before-heard tunes from grinding midtempo breaks, to gliiitchy freak hop, to throbbing bass-heavy body manipulation music....strictly for bassnymphos.

Having remixed/collaborated with the likes of KRS One, Freq Nasty, Cheb I Sabbah, Michael Franti, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Saul Williams, Noam Chomsky, The String Cheese Incident, Buckethead and Perry Farrell, the Bassnectar sound has benefited from a wide lens of exposure, and evolved from cutting edge dance music to where it exists today: a mutant mash-up of multiple styles and genres.

view the movie www.bassnectar.net/video/index.html

“Take the melodies of Radiohead or Massive Attack, the dance force of The Chrystal Method or Freq Nasty, the groove of Theivery Corporation or Kruder & Dorfmeister, and the artistic experimentation of Burningman madness and full time DJ-experience, and you get a window of what might be expected on the next Bassnectar album.”
- San Francisco Examiner

THE DUKES

What can you say about The Dukes but ….HOLY #@*&! Always intense in the mix, often with all four hands tweaking the mixer, DJs Adam Duke & KF ride a line of quirkiness through techno, electro, rock, house and breaks unlike any other duo out there. Notorious for their energetic stage personas and wild musical tastes, they’ve captivated crowds in every environment with their deep, funky raw grooves and feverishly intense moments of pure insanity.

They’ve headlined sets at every one of Toronto's major clubs, held residency at the legendary Boa-Redux, were voted Toronto’s ‘Best Upcoming DJ’ in the annual city-wide voters poll(2001), and have played alongside numerous international acts like Joey Beltram, Ellen Allien, Ken Ishii, Woody McBride, Christian Smith, John Selway, Aril Brikha, Kevin Saunderson and Matthew Herbert. In 2001 and 2002, they hosted a weekly radio show, 'The Real Ghunt', from the studios at Twelveinch.com (a show now revived on www.1Groove.com). The Dukes have finished their much anticipated second major CD project entitled “Let’s Get Cocky!”(2004) and are currently working on their own unique material.

SUGAR DADDY MOTH
After much hibernation the Sugar Daddy Moth is busting from his cocoon and swarming back to Toronto. Prior to his metamorphosis as a Tattoo artist, he was seen around Toronto with the likes of Jarkko, Legion of Green Men, Dave Kristian, Dekoze, Felix and Gani and Kenny Glasgow. We have located him in his newest incarnation to bring you a late night feast of locust proportions.

The Phat Conductor LIVE Tour 2005

2005 Marks an important transition in my musical development, reaching out to grasp previously unimagined possibilities. This summer I am touring with my new live PA/turntablism set using the revolutionary new software Ableton Live. Ableton allows me to create a live megamix of all of his original material in the party rocking sampladelic style I am known for. Unlike many previous Live PA rigs Ableton allows for great flexibility, improvisation, live looping and remixing, making each set a truly unique experience.

I am now booking tour dates for a very reasonable price. In addition to the Live set you will receive online promotional support, media packs/design elements, a DVD of visuals to accompany the set, a CD quality recording of the event, audio CD giveaways, some of my original artwork in the form of posters to give away to your party guests, and .pdfs of wall sized black and white murals which are designed to be printable from a home computer printer. This package ensures that the event will be thematically unified and long remembered because of the original artwork and music that you can give to your patrons.

If you are interested in booking me for this tour send me an email with an offer on one of the open dates and we will work something out. I am very understanding of your needs as I am a promoter myself. If my rates are too high I have other options available. I make most of my money from teaching digital music production and engineering. I charge $30 Canadian an hour and bring tons of samples and producer goodies to get any setup up and running. If you know any budding producers, or want to get your name on a breaks record hire me for a session or two and I will drop your event fees dramatically.

If you are in the UK/Europe and are worried about costs I will play your event for free so provided that you cover travel expenses and we find a few other gigs close by to make it workable.

Here is the schedule:

June 9-10-11 - Open
June 18 – Toronto tour kickoff
June 23-24-25 – Open
July 1-2 – Open
July 7-8-9 – Open
July 14-15-16 - Open
July 21-22-23 – Open
July 29-30-31 – Open
August 6-7 Old School productions, Quebec City
August 12-14 – Shambhala Festival, BC
August 18-19-20 – Open
August 25-26-27 – Evolve Festival, Nova Scotia

Greetings: From the the rebellious mountain nest of Nelson BC. Hope everyone is keeping warm & happy. My name is Alan and I am addicted to Shambhala .... and dancing to NaRsTy breakbeets.

Nelson is a beautiful place, way off far from everywhere but amazingly charged. The music scene here is alive & well , mostly due to a small but a super- deadicated crew of pioneers like: Hoola-Hoop + Lioness, Rich-E-Rich, the Shambles crew, and all the hardworkind DJ's ...

I came on to the scene as a dancer/tweaker by the speaker and liked it so much that I started a dancehall/lounge to facilitate arts events. The place is called Sanctuary New Media Gallery (website coming). Our first gig was Evil Monkey, Hoola-Hoop, Audio Architec & Lorin ... people were swinging off the rafters.

The club is 3000 sq ft, so its cozy (approx 275 capacity), if you have ever been to the fluid lounge here in Nelson, it is comperable in usuable space. The best feature of the place is the fact that we can go late (6am ish) where-as all bars close at 2am and if they get bumoing at midnight or 12:30 pm, that leaves a wopping 1 1/2 to 2 hours of total fun...

Please feel free to contact me if you are coming to the Nelson area and are interested in having a show, or even if you are just wanting to come to chill and take in the scenes.

cheers

aquasky vs. crash berlin starring kool keith
"movin the hype track"
...in stores now!!
just released this week worldwide on PASSENGER RECORDS

heres the reviews and support

COMMENTS

Like this record a lot - it's our number 2 best breaks record of the month (after the new plumps 12", natch) kool keith is still sounding very kool! ..... -senior music ed at Mixmag

DJ MAGAZINE - 4 Stars "Full-on buzzbass blast of righteous funked up noise"

"Superb track. Dropped it in Manchester –worked a treat! Nice work lads." –Matt Callanan (Phantom Beats, Spectrum, Various)

Reactions are very strong thus far for Aquasky Vs Crash Berlin feat. Kool Keith ’s ‘Movin ’The Hype Track ’, with the majority of DJs actively backing at least one of the mixes. Key Supporters getting on board at this stage include Phantom Beats, Smithmonger and The Capoeira Twins, amongst others.

"Rockin ’! Production is excellent. Kool Keith is (and always was) The Man! Nice one!" –Tim Hancock (Capoeira Twins)

Radio Support is extremely strong with plays on; - Radio 1 from Steve Lamacq and Annie Nightingale, Capital from Ali B (Currently #13 in the Capital Club Chart) as well as spot plays on Cable Radio, Breaks FM, NSB Radio, Phantom FM and Juice FM.

"This single is an absolute crossover monster, crossing the central reservation of the dance music and pop chart musical highway, like a soup ’ed up truck. Breaks & Rock & Rap = The Future!!" –Clive Craske (Cable Radio)

"What a combination! The masters of breakbeat and the master of old school rap. Aquasky/Crash Berlin can do no wrong and the moment - Kool Keith never has. If breaks is going to come to the forefront soon this tune will no doubt have helped greatly. Any chance of the a cappella?" –Johnny 1 Move (Chibuku, Subfunk, Various)

Reactions are still filtering in for ‘Movin ’The Hype Track ’and as previously the vibe is extremely positive, with all the DJs this week backing at least one of the mixes. Key Support comes courtesy of The Freestylers ’Matt Cantor, Adam H and Cibuku ’s Johnny 1 Move.

"Big hype around this one and plenty requested already. Featured on the Waxworks mix last week and dropped in Ibiza to a great response." –Adam H (Juice FM, The Honey Club, Various)

Aquasky keep the pressure on via their Passenger label with a collaborative effort that rocks like the proverbial. The trio ’s gritty jump up flow is in full effect on this cut and, combined with the legendary Kool Keith on mic-hype duty, makes for a slab of sonic sorcery that ’s sure to satisfy the party-hard breaks heads. Full-vox and dub mixes mean both club and radio angles are covered..... KNOWLEDGE MAGAZINE UK

Radio Support is still looking strong, with the main mix being featured on Adam H ’s Juice FM show. London pirate Ruud Awakening are supporting on the Stranger show, whilst East Anglia pirate station Stylish FM also add their weight, thanks to DJ Perplex. Breaks FM and Capital also reaffirm support.

The dub mix is seeing a lot of dance floor action at the hands of the DJs but the original mix is still taking most of the plaudits. Average DJ reaction this week is 7.8/10, with average floor reaction 7.7/10
